Adineta cuneata Milne 1916
Adineta cuneata, dorsoventral view. This species is stouter than A. vaga, even if the body is expanded to the maximum as shown in this image.
Adineta cuneata, dorsoventral view. Focus plane on ventral side of the head and the foot with bulbous spur segment and short spurs.
Adineta cuneata, head; focus plane on the ciliary field and the rake apparatus. The number of U-hooks is 3, the number of dents 4.
Adineta cuneata, two aspects of the foot showing the bulbous spur-bearing foot segment which is separated from the foot by a notch (arrows). The spurs are very short and have no tips.
Adineta cf cuneata, dorsoventral view. This specimen from Svalbard has the same bulbous spur-bearing foot segment as the previous specimens, but has also some differences regarding the spur-length and the number of denticles/ U-gaps in the rake apparatus (see images below). (2)
Adineta cf cuneata, four images of the foot of the same specimen as above and the head in ventral view. Upper left image shows the bulbous spur-bearing segment with a small "dent" between the base of the spurs, which can also be seen in the ventral view of the toes in the upper right image. The spurs of this morphotype (lower left image) are much longer than the ones of the normal A. cuneata. The number of denticles in this morphotype ist 6, the number of U-gaps therefore is 5 (lower right image). (2)
