Adineta sp. 6
Adineta sp.6: creeping; dorsoventral view. Very similar to Adineta steineri, i.e. the last segment of the trunk is wider (bolster) and suddenly narrows foot-wise. The spurs are horn-like and curved backwards. In contrast to A. steineri the side protrusions do not have bristles. This species corresponds to the description of Donner (1965), Fig. 198 e-g.

Adineta sp.6: head of a creeping specimen, dorsoventral view. The arrowheads point to the lateral protrusions of the rostral lamella which have no or only very short bristles.

Adineta sp.6; two aspects of the prehensile apparatus. Left image: focus plane on the 9 "U-hooks" which are at the base of the teeth and function as reinforcement. In the right image the "U-hooks" and the teeth of the rakes are in the same focus plane. 13.11.2012 (2)

Adineta sp.6; this image of a compressed specimen clearly demonstrates the "digonont" feature of bdelloid rotifers: in contrast to their neighbour group, the Monogononta, they have two ovaries. The arrows point to the nuclei of these two ovaries, while the arrowheads point tothe nuclei of one of the two vitellaria. (Bourtang 11.11.2012)
