Trichodina pediculus
Trichodina pediculus on a tentacle of Hydra sp.

Trichodina pediculus: focal plane on the adhesive disc. In contrast to Trichodina domerguei megamicronucleata this species has an adhesive disc with 8-31 denticles (some of them are marked by arrowheads)

Trichodina pediculus; specimen from (2)

This "wheel" of denticles was excreted by the rotifer Trichocerca rattus-carinata. It is likely that this is the adhesive disc of Trichodina, which "survived" the digestive process within the rotifer. (The brown spot in the background is a resting egg of this rotifer.)

Trichodina pediculus; because of the resistance against digestion enzymes of the rotifer´´ stomach in the above example a specimen from (2) was tested with SDS. The image shows the start of the desintegration of the adhesive disc. Some of the radial pins (RP) and peripheral pins (PP) are swimming in the liquid.
