Holophrya ovum Ehrenberg, 1831

Holophrya ovum; optical longitudinal median section. In contrast to Holophrya discolor or Holophrya teres this species has symbiotic (not digested!!) zoochlorellae (Chlorella sp.). Also in focus are the macronucleus (Ma) and oral basket (OB). (3)

Holophrya ovum; detail of the macronucleus (Ma) . The single micronucleus is marked by arrowhead. (3)

Holophrya ovum; a Holophrya-species with symbotic zoochlorellae; cortex of the cell; focal plane on the ciliary rows. Lower image: detail. (3)

Holophrya ovum; cortex of the cell; focal plane on the brosse (lower image: detail). (3)

Holophrya ovum: specimen with lipid droplets ingested from an accidentally compressed copepod. See also the Ophryoglena-specimen from the same sample (2).

Holophrya ovum; focal plane on the contractile vacuole and some longer cilia at the posterior end. (1)

Holophrya ovum; same specimen, focal plane on the oral region with rows of ???extrusomes???. (1)

Holophrya ovum; left: another specimen from (4); right: detail of the oral region (crop of the left image).
